1. Regarding the second panel - this kind of had a tricky joke to translate. Isaac originally says 「真っ暗」, which means "pitch-dark" or "total darkness", but which is (according to someone who helped me on japanese) apparently an archaic way of putting things. So to keep with his apparent old-fashionedness(?), I used the word sheol for him, which most of y'all probably know from the Bible. I debated on using "Hades", but given that the mythology of Golden Sun is skewed towards the Greeks, it struck me as being too "contemporary" for Weyard, if that makes sense.

1. The original title of this strip is actually "Japanese Folktale," so I wasn't sure if the story Ivan was telling - which I took a couple of liberties on rendering because I couldn't parse some of it - was the opening to a well-known Japanese folktale or not. A quick Google search didn't immediately reveal anything, so I just went with making my own shit up.

As of today, December 21, 2008, goldensun4koma now has 50 members! Thanks for the support, you guys! I'm glad there's a lot of you out there finding use in my little corner here. Part of the reason I'm motivated to do these translations is because there's an audience for it. So, thank you!

I put together this winter-themed mix because I felt like it. Songs either have a winter-related title or sound wintry. Although some songs have Christmas in the title or sound Christmasy, I stayed away from using the usual Christmas carols - the only song on there that has 'em is the first one, which is this ridiculously cute medley of Christmas carols in Japanese done by some seiyuu from Di Gi Charat or something. And now, the main course! I'm offering you guys an incomplete set of the raw scans I'm working from for this anthology, plus bigger-sized scans of the various cover and miscellaneous illustrations. I scanned them in two pages at a time, so I've only included the scans where I finished translating both pages in the scan. Please, please credit me for the scans. This was a pain-in-the-ass to deal with, so I would like some recognition of that. You guys can use them for icons and banner and whatshit (and if you do, let me know so I can take a look!), but I just ask that if someone asks you where you got the scans from, just point them back here, aight?

2. Re: the last panel - in the original Japanese, Mia greeted Saturos with "yoroshiku", which generally means "nice to meet you" and so forth. The thing was, it was written in shorthand, as 4649. Breaking it down, the "code", so to speak, looks like this:

yo = the "yo" in "yon" (the number 4 in Japanese)
ro = the "ro" in "roku" (the number 6 in Japanese)
shi = an alternate reading of the number 4
ku = one of the readings for the number 9

Hence, why I decided to go with chatspeak for that particular bubble...

1. In frame 2, Babi's original complaint was (I think) that Garet's name was too long, so he couldn't remember it. Garet's original Japanese name was Gerald, which is phonetically spelled "Jerarudo". Compared to "Robin", "Iwan", and "Meari", I guess that is relatively long. XD
2. In the original Japanese, Babi was punning the Japanese vowel sounds again for some reason. He did it in this color comic by the same artist too. I decided to change it to the English vowel sequence for this comic.
3. Dull is a move that weakens the ATK of one enemy. It is wind-aligned.
